Nabi Karim Building Fall
National News:On Saturday afternoon, when the people of Delhi were looking for shelter from the strong winds and sudden rain, a building under construction in the narrow lanes of Paharganj suddenly collapsed. The walls that were dreaming of piercing the sky a moment ago, buried three lives the next moment.
This structure that collapsed in Nabi Karim area was the construction site of a private building. Workers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh had come here to earn their bread. But fate made this their final destination.
These three were inside the building when suddenly this structure under construction turned into dust. Another worker Chhuttan, who is also from Munger, was rescued in an injured condition and is admitted in the hospital.
By the time three fire engines reached the spot, people's screams were buried under the rubble. In the initial investigation, Delhi Police considered heavy storm and rain as the reason, but the big question is-were safety standards being followed at the construction site? Was the foundation of the building strong? And was there any structure to protect the workers?
Local resident Raees Ahmed said:"For the last one week, these people were working without any safety. No helmet, no belt. There was only brick and sweat."
On the same day, another accident took place in E-block of Shahbad Dairy. An incomplete wall collapsed in strong winds and broke on the roof of the adjacent house. Two children and two women were buried under the rubble. The head of the family, Vimlesh, says, "The wall was not built properly, we had complained earlier too, but no one listened."
These two accidents have put the Delhi administration in the dock. Was permission taken from the MCD? Were the workers given safety equipment? And if the weather department had warned of a storm, was there an order to stop the construction work?
These incidents not only took lives but also shattered people's trust - the trust that a worker would come to Delhi to earn money, and return alive.
This is not an ordinary accident, but a warning - Delhi will now have to monitor its construction sites again, otherwise the next time a falling wall will destroy someone else's world.
